First Friday at Abbot Kinney

Today I’m inviting all of you to join us at First Friday in Venice, CA on Abbot Kinney Boulevard.

What is First Friday? Good question! I would describe it as an excellent block-party, put together by the city of Venice, CA in an effort to support local merchants. You can expect to find food trucks lining the street as well as lining The Brig parking lot. The trucks vary from month-to-month but a good guess makes me believe that the following trucks will be there:

I plan on gorging myself at the food truck. A grilled cheese sandwich here costs approximately $5 and is worth every last melty, chewy bite. I’ll also be keeping my eyes peeled for a southern-style BBQ truck my friend mentioned last time she went.
In addition to the food trucks, you can explore the art galleries, boutiques, bars, and eateries on Abbot Kinney. If you choose to explore the bars, I recommend The Brig if you’re looking to get an idea of the Venice atmosphere.
Parking gets to be a hassle after 5 p.m. so we strongly suggest getting to Venice a little early if you want to find easy parking. Otherwise, be prepared for traffic, try to stay away from driving directly on Abbot-Kinney Boulevard, and aim for parking a few blocks north or south. Be careful to look for street signs indicating permit-only parking. If you are coming from Downtown, you can also take Metro Line 733 or 33, which is only $1.50 for a single trip.
If you’re planing on going to First Friday as a date or if you meet someone cute and want to do something romantic to finish off the night (get your head out of the gutter!) you can make your way to the Venice Canals. Simply head south down Abbot Kinney to S. Venice Blvd and head west, towards the ocean until you reach Eastern Court. Turn left onto Eastern Court and make a right at the first possible alley. You’ll see the canals directly in front of you. A stroll through the canals is free, romantic, and fun! Just be sure not to disturb the residents who actually live there.
