Happy New Year, all! During the holidays I took a side trip to North County, San Diego to visit my good friend Allie, and we had some adventures in San Diego. I know this is Los Angeles on a Budget, but can’t you afford to take a nice road trip once in awhile? If you ever find yourself in Escondido, be sure to visit the legendary Stone Brewery.
The restaurant bistro and beer gardens ARE located in an office park – kind of random, yes, but don’t be fooled by appearances! Once you enter Stone Brewery, you’ll see a beautiful garden outside the brewery. One of the best ways to experience the place is to take a tour. You can buy tickets to the tour for $3. $1 from each ticket will be donated to a local charity, and there is no waiting in line for a spot. With the tour you get FOUR samples of Stone Brewery beer including one special or limited release beer. You also receive a Stone Brewery commemorative tasting glass available only on tours.
Your guide will take you into the working brewery, where you can learn all about the brewing process and craft beer culture. Tours last approximately 45 minutes followed by a guided tasting which is certainly enough to get you pretty buzzed especially if you haven’t eaten. Tours are available at 12, 2, 4, and 6 PM on weekdays and at every hour between 12-6pm on weekends. For more information, click here.
After Allie and I sampled some amazing beer, we were definitely in the mood for some food. Stone Brewery has a restaurant with food that is made using many of their beers. I have had the macaroni and cheese, hummus, soft pretzels and Shepard’s pie, and they are all very good. The beer tends to be on the darker and hoppy side, so if you are a fan of IPAs, you’ll love Stone Brewery Beer.
