A few weeks ago, Steven and I went to the Thrillist X Kia Social Club event. I got an invitation on in my email since I subscribe to their emails (You should too!). We got to try some great food, check out a band and have a good time! If you get an invite, I would highly recommend signing up!
We signed up for the afternoon slot on a Saturday in downtown Los Angeles. The event was held in the same venue as Pancake and Booze Los Angeles, which I have written about previously. We were given tickets as we walked in for drinks and each of the food stands. I got the American sour (Wild Turkey American Honey, sour mix, club soda) and Steven got the Kentucky Mule (Wild Turkey Bourbon, ginger syrup, fresh squeezed lime juice, Angostura bitters, soda water). The drink I had was pretty good, kind of sour-sweet taste.
The first snack we tried was the Rainbow Melt from Chomp Eatery in Santa Monica. It is a rainbow-colored grilled cheese sandwich with four types of cheese (Asiago, Fontina, Provolone, and Parmesan) with colored food dye on sourdough bread. It was quite a delicious sandwich and I would highly recommend trying it when you get a chance!
Next we had some sliders from Hopdoddy Burger Bar called Good Cause Sliders. They were really good, I remember the meat being quite flavorful. When you buy this burger, $1 is donated to LONE STAR PARALYSIS. Here are the ingredients: Angus Beef, Tillamook Cheddar, Hickory BBQ Sauce, Caramelized Onions, Sliced Jalapeno, Hickory BBQ, Sassy Sauce, Red Leaf Lettuce, Beefsteak Tomato. So you get to eat a great burger and do good for the world as well!
After this we had some coffee from Verve Coffee Roasters. I’m not usually a coffee person, but who can resist a good cappuccino and latte? I remember it being quite smooth, but the combination of drink and coffee certainly gave me some energy. After this we had some sandwiches from Mendocino Farms. They served both chicken and steak sandwiches; I preferred the steak and Steven liked the chicken.
For dessert we tried some pudding cups called Ube Upside own Pie and Buko Pandan Chia Seed Pudding from Creme Caramel LA. The latter was vegan and gluten free. I liked the ube one better since it tasted a bit like pie and Steven liked the buko (it reminded me of green tea). We also got to take kale and pineapple smoothies home for the road and enjoy some music from band Bryce Vine.
Overall the event was fun and we got to try a lot of new kinds of food (and for free!) I think I liked the burger best. In order to be invited, visit the Thrillist blog and subscribe to their newsletter…maybe you’ll get the next invite!
